Kind-Hearted People Still Exist If You Let Them

I was in the cashier’s line at Walmart unpacking my cart of items onto the conveyor belt when an older woman behind me asked me, “Do you need some help?” I replied, “No, I got it but thank you!” While the cashier was ringing my items up, we started talking about drinking Ensure and how it has helped her since she was my age. We chatted a bit more, and then I grabbed my items and told her, “enjoy the rest of your day.” As I walked to my car, I was smiling, and I felt like a light sparked inside me.

When I got home, I started thinking about how kind she was towards me. She was an older lady of a different race and was still willing to go out of her way to help me when I should have been assisting her! It’s rare to run into a kindhearted person these days, and at times society takes it for granted when they randomly appear.

We are now programmed to do things independently that we already have a guard up when someone rushes in to assist us. There is so much negativity floating in the atmosphere that our doubts cloud the glimpse of positivity. Are there still nice people in this world? Yes, but they are deliberately overlooked. It’s an eye-opener when you meet someone who still shows effortless love throughout life.

I believe there is a deep-rooted fear that nice people are too good to be true. So when love, kindness, and appreciation are shown, it is easily taken for granted. Thinking this person will eventually switch personalities on you, or the facade will eventually disappear. What if it doesn’t? What if they really are genuine? Everyone is not selfish, and there are still honest, good-spirited people in this world.

Looking through the lens of past hurt makes us cast anger, hatred, and suspicions onto others that haven’t done a thing to us. We forget about the loving beings we have had in our lives and the great relationships we have built over time. Strangers are the ones who change our perspectives on the life we were raised to live.

I’ve seen many kind people get taken advantage of and used up until they turned cold. Most of the time, their kindness is looked at as a weakness. People say, “Why are they so happy all of the time?” and“I wish they would take a chill pill.” Why should they have to change their light and happiness for life to appease someone else? Especially when their light can have a positive influence on your day. Staying in a mindset of hate projects anger, just like being positive projects a brighter outlook. Food for thought!

We all have a different level of compassion within us, but if we showed each other even a little, imagine the shift it would cause. What we forget is we all have a heart and the ability to express kindness to others. We definitely don’t need any more “Karen’s” in this world. Some unconditional love to yourself and others can switch the perception we see ourselves and others in.

To this day, I appreciate this beautiful human sending me a reminder that kind people do exist if we open up to them, and it’s quite alright to be a benevolent person.
