Receiving guidance, inspiration, and advice and transforming it into your own uniqueness is way different from copying someone else’s inventiveness piece by piece or completely stealing their ideas for your benefit. What would you have created if you didn’t concentrate on someone’s opinions, ideas, designs, criticism, or suggestions? What path would you have taken on your own?
When you are not true to your authentic self, there can be a need to seek external validation from others. Honoring who you are can be difficult when you have a habit of changing your personality traits and molding them into different characters to receive acceptance.
Stop running from your authenticity for others’ approval. Most people won’t believe in you until you make a name for yourself. It is up to you to keep writing your story regardless.
So many people are quick to steal and copy creative ideas or personalities (keep your ideas to yourself and move in silence). Everyone wants in but don’t want to put in the work to receive it.
Have you ever scrolled down Tik Tok or YouTube, and you see videos with the same dialogue, sound, and creativity, but one platform has a million likes, and the other platforms have a few thousand? Some influencers will copy the video in its entirety without putting their own spin on it or tagging it.
Someone came up with something incredibly unique that was different from other platforms. Other influencers see how many views and likes the video has, so now they want a piece of the pie by duplicating it. Sometimes the video that was copied blows up more than the one the creator made. If you are already famous or have many followers, you can get away with doing this way easier.
Of course, we receive inspiration and information from others. You can use the knowledge that you gain to push you towards creating different ideas and formats. It doesn’t mean that you should correspond to it by matching their creative flow. Yes, you can spread your knowledge but do it with your truth. It’s ok to share a different opinion or a different perspective on the same topic.
Society tends to conform to what is popular, standard, and conventional. If you don’t follow these norms, you might be outcasted, looked at as unorthodox, and criticized for your lack of judgment. There is a forced feeling of never making it to the top if you don’t do what others do.
The power in climbing the ladder is following your own authenticity, uniqueness, and abilities. Celebrities, writers, influencers, and creatives get admired because people see a spark in that individual’s work that is quirky, special, and original. Something is engaging in them that nobody else projects.
Yes, it will take more time to get noticed, but you will stay true to yourself while doing what you love. The right community or company will find you that loves your work, your art, and who you are as a person. Spending your life following a rubric works at first, but your true passion will emerge down the line, but by then, you might get stuck in the box of others’ expectations of you.
Notice how famous figures talk about how they weren’t able to sing, write, or act the way that they wanted to at first because they signed a contract for fame and money, not for being acknowledged for their skills. They also talk about how miserable they were when being shaped into someone they are not. The limitations and structures in their contracts took them away from their desires. People started to view them in a certain way because of previous work, and now they have a hard time being themselves.
Sometimes we want something so badly that we start configuring our imagination into someone else’s. Therefore it’s vital to stick to your goals and vision no matter what. You will always have haters, so you might at well have them hate on the real you.
The money, lifestyle, and dreams sound good until you start going home miserable every day because you aren’t doing the things you love. Why do you think there are so many unhappy people in this world? It’s because we are all full of visions, passions, inspirations, and innovations but don’t bother to utilize them.
If we blocked out the outside noise and followed what is deep inside us, can you imagine what we have the potential to create? After putting aside the fear of being different, you will gain the followers, admiration, and endorsements that align with your very own artistry. Being your authentic self will help you stand out from a line of followers. You just have to believe that you have the potential to take on the challenge. Keep pushing to shine your own light. Your time will come!
